Fall Weather Cooking

Being that it's fall, we have snow and leaves on the ground and it's a little cold and gray it only made sense to make some fall staples: soup and pumpkin bread!

Get this, I, me, yes, EB, actually cooked dinner on Saturday night! I can't recall, and neither can Eric, the last time I was responsible for dinner that involved more than me calling a take out number. Not that soup is any major feat, but for me it's pretty impressive.

I did veggie soup with Italian sausage chunks in it. It wouldn't win a Michelin food award, but it was hot, yummy and hit the spot for a cold night. Eric liked it enough he told me to write the recipe down! That's a phrase I only hear with baking, so I was very excited that I cooked something the hubby liked and would eat again :)
The beginnings of veggie and sausage soup

He LOVES his veggies. Can you tell?

sausage chunks
soup!
Once the soup was done I went back to familiar territory and baked some pumpkin bread. Nothing fancy, just standard pumpkin bread but I did throw in some pecans just for a little crunch. The house smelled SOOOOOO good! Again, if someone would just invent smell-o-blog I could share the pumpkinny goodness.
Pre-bake
Do you see the mess I create on the counters every time I'm in the kitchen?
cool faster!
